The year has been both wonderful and full of hard work for the Nzingas. I’ve been helping as many people as possible take great vacations all over the Americas and raising a fairly new baby with my beautiful wife! Needless to say, it was time for a vacation. So like the boss that I am, I decided to round up a few friends and take a quick trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Myrtle Beach is known for its beautiful beaches, bars, great shopping, wonderful seafood, and is overall a bastion of relaxation on the east coast of North America. Usually I like to dig deep into a city to dig out the underlying gems of the place, or find ways for you to make the most of your trip. On this special blog, I want to recount our trip and let you know how WE made the most of a wonderful, low key and super-hype time in Myrtle Beach.
Upon settling into the fun little beach town, my friends and I spend a day at the beach, which turns into a worthy day and night out.

For any World Cup fans, you know how important it is to catch the game no matter where you are in the world. Lucky for us, along the  beach side in a nice local bar, the game is on! So we grab a few brews, and chant our battle cry until, much to my pleasure, my favorite team (France) wins!
Experiencing the energy of a crowd moved by the cheers of a World Cup well won, while on a wide white sand beach (say that three times), is an opportunity that I humbly cannot promise you. I can say that being around the relaxing, loose, happy energy of Myrtle Beach is always going to be full of libations and excitement for life.

Hunger and the quest for more fun draws us to the popular bar and restaurant Señor Frogs, where we enjoy the standard fair of enchiladas and margaritas. The Mexican cantina-style restaurant looks kitchy and fun on the outside with a yellowish clay frame,  palm leaf coverings and accents, and a large frog head peeking over the awning. We expect a good meal are in for an unexpected turn-up!
At 10 PM the quirky cantina turns into a hype and sexy nightclub. Senor Frog invites the Boardwalk goers into the space, let’s the DJ have the floor and pumps out music to dance and let go to.

We enjoy ourselves for a little while, but as the dance crowd descends upon our dinner spot, we venture out on the Boardwalk to chill out and dive deeper into the Myrtle Beach culture.
If you’re choosing to walk along the Boardwalk in the day time, you may get to experience really amazing recreation like Zip Lining. We’re wandering the pier as a late-night crew, so we spend the night feeding fish along the pier and enjoying a scenic Ferris wheel ride.

We stroll on back to our 2-bedroom, 2-bath resort-style home for the night at the lovely Avista Resort in N. Myrtle Beach. The resort offers golfing, spacious rooms with a well-equipped kitchen (never miss your coffee), great balcony views and is located only steps to the beach! And if you’re interested in taking a walk in my shoes, you can upgrade any package to Avista Resorts.

However, what’s wonderful about Myrtle Beach is that there are several comfortable, affordable and fun locations to stay in with your family and pals if you take the trip.
We offer stays at the 19-story Seaglass Tower; the seaside villas of Carolina Grande; Harbour Lights for the golf enthusiasts; and the lazy-river adjacent Shorecrest Vacation Villas.

Now I have been waiting to tell you my favorite part of the whole trip. This may sound tedious to some, but trust me, if you’re in a location like South Carolina, you can rest assured, no matter how beautiful and serene a place like Myrtle Beach is, there will be someone, somewhere selling a timeshare to the locals and tourists. And where there is a timeshare, there are free trips and perks involved.

I know, I know, of all the places I could have gone during my stay, I sat through a 90-minute timeshare presentation. But guess what, the 90-minutes afforded me a trip for 8 to anywhere. I’m considering blessing 7 other friends and family members with a trip to Dubai or Costa Rica.
My trip to Myrtle Beach isn’t the end all be all to Myrtle Beach, in fact there are loads of fun things to do and delicious food to eat.
Lowkey? Sure. Adult? Absolutely. But I tell you what, my methods always yield a positive outcome that multiplies the energy of the trip. And this lovely trip to Myrtle Beach basically paid for itself.
But if you’re not quite like me, and want a few other things to do and places to eat, of course your old pal Dan Nzinga has some suggestions. I wouldn’t leave you hanging!

And for more American classics, enjoy a nice dinner at the Library. Melt into the classic decor of yesterday with a slight art-deco feel in the dining room. The Library is known for its Steak Diane and won’t let you down on the wine menu, in case you don’t make it to the vineyards.

In South Carolina, remember you’re in the clutches of Southern charm and history. I bet you don’t think of S.C as a land of castles. Well, there is a castle, and you may visit. Atalya castle is the winter home of Archer and Anna Huntington. Built around the industrial era of the 1930s, the Spanish-Moorish-style castle draws crowds for weddings and regular tourist visits. However, the most intrigued guests are those who believe the halls are haunted, and seek to get close with a ghost.
